About Shilling
Shilling is the result of an interesting outcross between Chloe and Piper (Ch Ashcroft Sangeo Santana). Both of Shilling's grandsires are past #1 Bedlington Terriers, Vegas in in 2007 and Talyn in 2003 & 2006. Both Vegas and Talyn are also BTCA National Specialty Best of Breed winners. Shilling's sire and dam both had big wins from the classes during BTCA National Specialty weekends with Piper going Winners Dog at Montgomery (the National Specialty) in 2003 and Chloe going Winners Bitch at Hatboro in 2006.
Shilling lived with us at LAMZ until late 2018, when he found the absolute perfect family to retire with, and now lives in Northern Virginia as a spoiled pet.
We went to Shilling's sire hoping that the breeding would result in a moderately sized, good-moving dog. Shilling is all that we were hoping for, and more! He has a long, clean head and tremendous sidegait. He has a perfect, tiny dark eye, lovely ears and fabulous body proportions.
Shilling made his show ring debut at the Louisville dog show cluster in 2010, on his 6 month birthday. It was the Bedlington Terrier National Specialty weekend and he lived up to our high expectations, going Reserve Winners Dog to a 5-point major on Friday, the day preceding the National Specialty, and then Winners Dog/Best of Winners at the 2010 BTCA Floating National Specialty for a 5-point major at 6 months and 1 day of age! At 7 months old, we took him to a weekend of shows in Massachusetts where he went Winners Dog/Best of Winners/Best of Opposite both days, picking up two more 3-point majors, bringing him to a total of 11 points, with 3 majors. His next shows were in West Virginia, where he went Best of Breed every day from the 6-9mos puppy class and picked up a Group 3 and a Group 4 in extremly strong terrier groups at just 7 months and 1 week old. We took Shilling with us to Denver in August 2010 where he picked up another 4-point major at the BTCGD Specialty Weekend. He finished his Championship going Best of Breed from the classes over top-ranked specials, and was pulled in the group that day.
Shilling eased into his specials career, going slowly though the end of 2009 and into 2010. His specials career really took off after a tremendous BTCA National Specialty weekend in the fall of 2010. He was awarded Best of Breed at Morris & Essex under breeder-judge Ron Menaker, and was Select Dog/1st Award of Merit at the BTCA National Specialty 2010/Montgomery. He went out to the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in 2010 and received a Select Dog award over the cluster of pre-Eukanuba shows, as well as making it to the final cut at Eukanuba before his puppy antics did him in.
Shilling started 2011 out strong, winning multiple Best of Breeds and then, in early March, Back-to-Back Group 1's at only 17 months of age! He then went to our National Specialty weekend in mid-March 2011 where he was awarded Select Dog on Thursday and Friday and Best of Breed at the BTCA Supported Entry on Sunday, the day after our National Specialty. At just 19 months of age, he picked up another Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4 over a 4-day circuit in West Virginia and two weeks later picked up another Group 1, 2 and 3! In early June he continued this success, picking up another Group 1 and Group 3 in Virginia and then repeating it with another Group 1 in Virginia. At the end of June, he went out to California for the Bedlington Terrier Club of the West/Great Western Terrier Association Specialty weekend of shows. From that weekend, he walked away with his first Best in Specialty Show at the Bedlington Terrier Club of the West specialty at just 21 months old. He was also Select Dog at the 2011 BTCA Floating National Specialty and the second BTCW specialty that weekend. In July 2011, Shilling took a Group 2 in Virginia. We took Shilling to Houston, Texas for the Houston All Terrier Club weekend of shows. He took 3 Best of Breeds that weekend over a very strong lineup of Bedlingtons, and many nice specials. In August, we took Shilling back to Denver, Colorado for the BTCGD specialty and accomplanying all-breeds. Shilling went Best of Breed Both Days at the all-breed shows, again over a beautiful entry of specials and class Bedlingtons. Over the fall of 2011, Shilling continued his winning ways, picking up more Group Placements in some really strong lineups. Shilling ended 2011 as the #1 Bedlington Terrier Dog (All-Systems) in the United States.
Shilling's first litter was born in April 2011, resulting in 5 puppies (3 females, 2 males) out of Ch LAMZ Elizabethan Elegance. Of those puppies, three of them finished thier AKC Championships. Pippa (Ch LAMZ Upstaged the Bride CA) was Best in Sweepstakes at the 2012 BTCA National Specialty and went on to place in the Terrier Group during her first weekend out as a special. Harry (Ch LAMZ Most Eligible Bachelor) went Winners Dog at the BTCA Supported Entry on the day following the 2011 BTCA National Specialty for a 5-pt major. Kate (GCh LAMZ Happily Ever After CA RATI RATN) finished her championship easily by 18 months of age and earned a Best Puppy In Show award along the way!
Shilling's second litter was born in May 2013, resulting in six puppies (4 males, 2 females) out of Ch LAMZ Hokie Pokey. Two puppies finished their AKC Championships from this litter: Tucker (Ch LAMZ Kentucky Bourbon) and Rosie (Ch LAMZ Run for the Roses).
After taking a year off in 2012, while his sister, Rigby, took her turn in the ring, Shilling came back strong in 2013 picking up his first group placement of the year, a Group 3, during his first weekend of shows. During our National Specialty Weekend in March 2013, Shilling went Select Dog on Sunday and took an Award of Merit at the 2013 BTCA National Specialty. Shilling put in strong performances all year long, being consistently ranked among the Top-2 bedlingtons in the United States. Coming into the fall of 2013, he picked up THREE Terrier GROUP FIRST awards and one GROUP FOUR (including one set of back-to-back Group 1's) in just two weekends of showing at the end of September and begining of October!
Shilling has dabbled in performance, picking up his Coursing Ability (CA) title during a long weekend of Coursing Ability Tests in June, 2013 and his Coursing Ability Advanced (CAA) title during a long weekend of Tests in September, 2013! We slowly wrapped up his Coursing Ability Excellent (CAX) title, finally finishing it in April 2016 with his 25th Qualifying Run! Shilling Qualified all 25 times he ran in Coursing Ability Tests! He has since gone on to earn his Barn Hunt Instinct and Novice Barn Hunt titles.
Although Shilling has been in "semi-retirement" after 2013, his show ring days have been far from over. At the 2014 BTCA National Specialty, Shilling was 2nd Award of Merit! Shilling came back out on a limited basis in 2015 to show in the AKC's National Owner Handled Series with Laurie. Shilling quickly moved up the NOHS rankings, earning multiple NOHS Group 1's and Group placements and a NOHS Best in Show along the way! Shilling ended 2015 as the #1 Bedlington Terrier in the NOHS series!
Shilling's career was capped off in 2016 when he was awarded Best of Breed at the 2016 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City! Shilling will be shown on a limited basis through 2016 before he becomes a veteran in September 2016.
