“Once you have had a wonderful dog, a life without one, is a life diminished.”
– Dean Koontz
About Us -
The LAMZ Bedlington Terriers, Reg. line is a collaboration of the efforts of mother-daughter team Laurie Zembrzuski and Gaby Gilbeau, Esq. Founded in 2003, with the acquisition of our foundation dog and bitch, the LAMZ Bedlington Terrier family has produced over 350 titleholders in Conformation, Performance and Companion events.
Both Laurie and Gaby hold pre-veterinary Bachelor's degrees in Animal Science (Laurie from the University of Delaware and Gaby from Virginia Tech) and Gaby holds a law degree from Penn State Law, with a focus on Animal, Environmental and Agricultural Law. In addition to their formal studies, both of them grew up in the horse world. Their equestrian experience includes showing hunters and jumpers, riding on competitive equitation teams, working with Thoroughbred trainers on the racetrack, and overseeing the breeding and delivery of mares on a world-renowned Morgan horse breeding farm. This scientific and practical background provided them with a solid foundation in genetics, movement, conformation, animal reproduction, animal evaluation, behavior, nutrition and animal husbandry, which they utilize in all of their dog breeding and showing decisions, as well as the day-to-day care of their dogs.
LAMZ Bedlington Terriers, Reg. is a Registered Kennel Name with the American Kennel Club (AKC). We reserve all rights associated with the use of the LAMZ kennel name and do not authorize its use without our express, written permission.
Laurie and Gaby are both AKC Breeders of Merit, Bedlington Terrier Club of America (BTCA) Breeders of Distinction and BTCA Parent Club Approved Breed Mentors. Additionally, they are members of both the Morris & Essex and Catoctin Kennel Clubs.
Laurie and Gaby were honored to receive the American Kennel Club's Breeder of the Year nomination for the Terrier Group in 2018, a distinction which has never been bestowed upon any other Bedlington Terrier breeder. We are forever humbled by the American Kennel Club's recognition of our beautiful family of sound, healthy, temperamentally sound dogs.
We welcome all inquires for mentorship in this breed and are happy to host kennel visits or provide ringside mentoring for aspiring judges and Bedlington fanciers, upon request.

The Beginning -
Our involvement in the world of purebred dogs began in 2003 with the addition of our first Bedlington Terrier, Gypsy (CH Chelsea's Blue Gypsy Dancer RA SE CGC), to our family. She was our first show dog, and with her, we began to learn the ins and outs of the conformation show ring. After showing her for a few months, we were hooked. At the Montgomery County Kennel Club show (the largest Terrier show in the world) that year, Gaby "stole" Gypsy away from Laurie, leaving Laurie without a dog to show, and so it was decided that one dog was one dog too few for two handlers.
In October 2003, Vegas (MBISS GCH LAMZ Viva Las Vegas RN FDC SE CA RATI RATN CGC) joined the family. Both Gypsy and Vegas finished their AKC Championship titles on the same day in August 2004. Shortly after, we decided to retire Gypsy from active showing and lightly show Vegas as a special.
Due to our inexperience, we didn't realize until several years later just how lucky we were to be graced with such an outstanding Bedlington for our foundation dog. In 2005, Vegas ended the year as the #5 Bedlington in the United States after winning a huge Best of Breed award during the BTCA National Specialty Weekend, at the famed Morris & Essex Kennel Club dog show. We campaigned Vegas actively in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and he ended all three years in the top-10 of the breed and was the #1 Bedlington Terrier (Breed) in the United States for 2007.
Vegas was put into semi-retirement after 2007, making limited appearances at the larger shows and specialties well into his retirement. He continued to be placed among the top dogs on the day, earning his final Best of Breed at the BTCA Supported Entry following the 2016 BTCA National Specialty over an entry of 40+ Bedlingtons, going on to take a Terrier Group 2 in an entry of 200+ terriers, at over 13 years of age. As a Veteran, Vegas was consistently been recognized for his lasting and outstanding quality, winning Best of Breed the 2011 BTCA National Specialty under breeder-judge Jackie Fogel of First Class Bedlingtons and Bassets, at nearly 8 years old. Notably, he won the final Group 1 of his show career, under esteemed judge Michelle Billings, on the day he finished his Grand Championship - just shy of his 9th birthday. To this day, he continues to be the cornerstone of our breeding program as his progeny continue to win top awards across the country and around the world.
We lost Gypsy and Vegas both to old age, at 17.5 and 16.5 years old, respectively. Both lived incredibly long, healthy lives and we are so blessed to have been able to start our breeding program on such a strong foundation.
The LAMZ bloodline was officially established in 2005, when we whelped our first litter of homebred Bedlington Terriers. From that first litter, we kept two puppies, Rocky and Chloe. Both puppies became AKC Champions, with some notable wins along the way. Chloe later went on to become a top-producing brood bitch for our line, and for the breed, and she is behind all of our top winning dogs to this day. Her offspring include National Specialty and Westminster Kennel Club Best of Breed winner, NBISS GCHS LAMZ Eleanor Rigby FDC JE CAX BCAT RATI RATN CGC and Westminster Kennel Club Best of Breed winner BISS GCHG LAMZ Heads I Win Tails You Lose JE CAX RATI RATN.
Over the ensuing years, we have bred many wonderful litters and have dogs out in show rings and performance venues throughout the country, and across the globe. We have produced and owned an All-Breed Best in Show winner, two Reserve Best in Show winners, numerous Terrier Group winners and placers, multiple National Specialty and Regional Specialty Best of Breed winners, Puppy Group and Puppy Best in Show winners, National Owner-Handled Series Best in Show and Group winners, many 5-point major winners, several National Specialty Winners Dogs and Bitches (and Best of Winners winners), multiple National Specialty Best in Sweepstakes and Best of Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes winners, Regional and Floating Specialty Winners Dogs and Bitches, and dogs holding more than 350 titles in Conformation, Performance and Companion events. We look forward to what the future has in store for all of the LAMZ puppies and our extended "families" who live with and love these dogs.

Our Philosophy -
In a rare breed, with a limited gene pool, we recognize the importance of outcrossing and maintaining genetic diversity within our line and our breed. We employ both judicious outcrossing and linebreeding across generations to bring in and then maintain the traits that we like to see in the look and temperament of our dogs, all while employing all health testing available to us. Having a built-in partner double checking and consulting on every breeding decision allows our team-based approach to developing our line to succeed. We share a vision of our "perfect" Bedlington and tirelessly discuss and weigh all breeding decisions, many times years (and generations) before they come to fruition. Using our long-term planning process, we seek to not only produce just the next generation, but to create an ongoing family of dogs who all fit into and advance our plan for achieving and maintaining the LAMZ style and temperament.
Over the years, we have actively sought out dogs to outcross to that bring many virtues to the table, along with diversity in their pedigrees. From the early days of the LAMZ line, we have incorporated dogs from overseas and across the United States to maintain the genetic diversity of our line. We are honored that breeders from across the globe have made their dogs accessible to us to accomplish this goal, for the betterment of the Bedlington breed as a whole. We have successfully used and incorporated dogs from Sweden, the Netherlands and most recently, Italy into our breeding program. From the earliest days of the LAMZ line, we have sought out these foreign outcrosses to bring important breed type traits and genetic diversity to our breeding program.
We firmly believe that a top dog should not only prove themselves in the show ring and, subsequently, the whelping box, but should also excel in performance events that test their instinct, brains, trainability, and temperament. We actively compete with our dogs in a wide range of performance events such as Rally-O, Coursing Ability tests, Fast CAT trials, Agility, Earthdog, Barn Hunt, Dock Diving, Scentwork, and the AKC's Canine Good Citizen, Farm Dog Certified, Temperament Test and Trick Dog programs. We have dogs who hold titles in all of these events, including higher-level titles in many of them. LAMZ Is proud to have bred the top ranked Dock Diving and Fast CAT Bedlingtons for several years, including the All-Time #1 Dock Diving Bedlington, Zoolander (RBIS MBISS NBISS GCHG LAMZ Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking FDC CAA FCAT3 RATI RATO DJA DSA CGCA TKN ATT). A true testament to their stable and wonderful temperaments, we have also produced several certified Therapy Dogs who actively perform therapy work in schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and other facilities across the country. We are also honored to have produced a handful of medical alert service dogs whose talents and skills provide life-saving peace of mind for their owners. Although most of our own time and effort is spent in the Conformation ring, we ensure that we take several weekends each year to attend various performance events with our dogs to truly make them well rounded dogs.

The Kids, The Future -
We are strong supporters of junior handlers, both in our breed and in others. Gaby competed actively in Junior Showmanship until she aged out in October of 2007. Gaby was the #2 Bedlington junior in 2005, and the #1 Bedlington junior in 2006 and 2007, as well as being a Top-10 Terrier Junior in 2006 and 2007, and in the Top-30 Juniors in the country in 2007. She was the first junior handler to show a Bedlington Terrier at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. With Vegas, she qualified for Eukanuba twice and Westminster once. All of the children in our family have competed in Junior Showmanship and have moved into the open class. Ryan had a few wins and was a ranked Bedlington Terrier junior over numerous years. Remy only competed in Junior Showmanship a handful of times, but qualified to compete in the Open classes before he aged out.
Over the years, we have had the pleasure of mentoring and working with numerous other junior handlers. One of our bedlingtons, Roadie (Multi Group Winning GCHB LAMZ College Road Trip), was shown in Juniors by his owner, Morgan Miller, for many years. Together, they had many class wins and Best Junior Handler awards. Roadie and Morgan were the #1 Bedlington Junior Handler team for numerous years and the #1 Terrier Junior Handler team in the United States in 2010. Morgan is now breeding Bedlingtons under the M&M kennel name and has produced numerous champions, group winning and group placing Bedlington Terriers, and most recently, the 2021 Westminster Kennel Club Best of Breed winner.
In 2011, Lydia Frey joined our Junior Showmanship "family." She started off showing Vegas in juniors in order to qualify for Eukanuba 2011 and to learn more about the presentation of our breed. After getting her second Bedlington Terrier, Tony, from us in 2013, Lydia and Tony took the Junior Showmanship world by storm. Lydia and Tony went Best Junior Handler at the 139th Westminster Kennel Club dog show, held at Madison Square Garden in February 2015. This was the first time that a Junior Handler with a Bedlington had ever even made it to the Junior Showmanship finals at Westminster. Following this historic win, Lydia and Tony departed for Milan, Italy, where they again won Best Junior Handler at the 2015 World Dog Show. This is the first time a Bedlington Junior Handler has ever won the World Junior Handling Finals. Although retired from active competition in Junior Handling, the bar set by Lydia and Tony is a momentous accomplishment for a Bedlington Junior Handler and we are so proud of what this young team has accomplished! Lydia is now breeding Bedlingtons under the Snowbrook kennel name and has bred several group winning and placing Bedlington Terriers, including the #1 Bedlington Terrier (All-Breed) in 2019.

Health
Employing DNA testing, examinations and reports by licensed canine veterinary specialists in cardiology and ophthalmology, and our own college degrees in Animal Science (from the University of Delaware and Virginia Tech), we work to ensure that we produce the healthiest Bedlington Terriers that we can.

Beauty
Judicious line-breeding and outcrossing, knowledge of our pedigrees and a defined vision for the future, allows us to create a family of dogs whose style, soundness and typey-ness endures, generation after generation.
|
BrainsPerformance competitions, Therapy Dog certifications and work, as well as a focus on producing beloved family pets ensure that we never lose sight of the important temperament aspect of our bloodline. Temperament is highly heritable, so we make every effort to only use dogs in our bloodline with proven soundness of mind.
