GCh. LAMZ Derby Day Mint Julep
About Derby
Derby lives with our longtime friend Linda Young who had admired Derby's sire, Vegas (MBISS GCh LAMZ Viva Las Vegas RN SE CA RATI RATN CGC), since Vegas was a puppy. Derby is a large boy with a fabulous head, correct proportions and a beautiful outline. His movement is absolutely breathtaking, with a clean and correct down and back and a floating sidegait with remarkable reach and drive. He reminds us so much of his sire, Vegas, both in terms of conformation and temperament.
Derby picked up his first few singles easily in the mid-atlantic area and then in August 2011, Derby picked up back-to-back 5-point major wins at the Canfield, Ohio cluster. He finished his AKC Championship by going Winners Dog for a 4-Point Major at Devon (Montgomery Weekend) in October 2011. We are so proud of how well he has done in such a short amount of time. During the 2012 BTCA National Specialty Weekend in Louisville, KY, Derby received an Award of Merit on the day preceding the National Specialty and then made it to the final cut in the breed on Saturday at the National Speciatly, all at just 18 months old! In June, 2012, after being shown very limitedly, he picked up his first Best of Breed as a special and went on to take a Terrier Group 3!
In 2013, Lydia Frey was signed on to Derby to show him in juniors and also to compete with him in the breed ring. During their "trial weekend" in breed as a team, Derby went Select Dog three of the days of the 2012 BTCA Floating National Specialty weekend in Concord, NC. Together, they finished Derby's Grand Championship in January, 2013. Derby is now retired from the show ring and enjoys going to work with Linda every day.
